1. Automated Test Matrices

1. Automated Test Matrices

Alchemy has introduced configurable, automated test matrices.

What is a test matrix?

  • A test matrix is a structured test plan to help a chemist set up a large number of experiments when needing to vary multiple inputs such as time, temperature, substrate and other conditions for each formulation.

What are some of the primary benefits?

  • A test matrix enables lab staff to specify at a granular level which inputs are varying and by how much as well as what is staying constant in each sample that needs to be created and tested.
  • Test matrices also help the chemist and any lab techs that assist with sample creation and testing stay practically and visually organized as they complete many permutations.

How does a chemist create a test matrix?

  • In Alchemy, we enable the chemist to generate test matrices by simply defining what properties are being measured (e.g. opacity, pH, viscosity…) and under which circumstances (e.g. date range, different types of application substrate, varying temperature, etc.).
  • We then auto-generate all the underlying data structure to capture each unique test.
  • Finally, we aggregate the resulting test data in a simple table in our UI, for each trial side-by-side, for easy data entering and comparison.

Here is a representative example:

  • A chemist needs to test opacity for 2 samples applied on 3 types of surface: steel, glass and wood. The measurements should be repeated 2 times, with 7 days in between. Users open the “Add Test” modal, add the opacity property that is being measured and define different values for varying conditions (substrate and time). In just a few clicks, the testing table with all 6 tests will be populated within the test matrix.

Other Improvements

  • Improved importing requirements on the Study Overview to import all the data and ranges together with all the targets.
  • Improved The Scan & Score modal (table) so that all matching formulations that are displayed have links, so you can open formulations and see what’s in them (all materials, phases, processing steps…).
  • Resolved an issue when superusers weren’t able to edit an expression on calculated properties.
  • Resolved an issue when adding a new comment inside a Phase was causing an unnecessary animation in the empty row.
  • Resolved a UI issue when proceeding to the next trial group caused the formulations table to look unaligned until the next trial was created.
  • Resolved an issue when deleting all the trials from the Formulating and Testing Workspace causing the Formulation table to completely disappear.
